Biography
DENISE SPERRYis an award-winning artist whose works have been
displayed in several local, regional, and national exhibitions. She has
received numerous awards including several Best of Show. Denise is
known for her rich vibrant colors and creative depiction of subject. Design
is foremost and each painting is unique.
Denise received her Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from the
S.U.N.Y. at Buffalo. She pursued an art education by attending the
Scottsdale Artists School and participating in workshops taught by
nationally and internationally renowned artists throughout the United
States and Canada. Good design, originality, luminosity, and intensity of
color are the hallmarks she strives to attain in her paintings.
Denise is a member of numerous local, regional, and national artistic
associations. Her watercolor paintings appear in private and corporate
collections throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. She has
had several solo, group, and gallery exhibitions.
In 2009, Denise's paintings were juried into the following exhibitions:
Adirondacks 28th National Exhibition of American Watercolors, the
Pennsylvania Watercolor Society 30th International Exhibition, the
Northeast Watercolor Society 33rd International Exhibition, and the
Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society National Exhibition. Denise's painting
“Kaleidoscopic Colors” was selected for the catalog cover of the 2009
Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors. This painting
will also appear in the October issue of Artists Magazine in the “Gallery.”
Denise’s painting “A Chorus Line” was selected for all literature promoting the PWS International Exhibition including postcards, DVD, and brochure.
She received an award in the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society 30th
International Exhibition.
Denise’s paintings were accepted into the 2006 and 2008 Adirondacks
National Exhibition of American Watercolors in Old Forge, NY. In
September 2007 and 2008, she was a guest artist for the annual Historical
Society of Buffalo’s fundraiser “Paint The Town.” In October 2009, Denise was an invited guest artist by the Art Center of Old Forge, New York to participate in a Plein Air paint out and auction.
From October, 2007 through February, 2008, Denise’s paintings appeared
in solo exhibition at Elevenzees Art Gallery in Chicago, IL. Her works were
also featured in Chicago Social Magazine.
Denise’s award winning painting “Locked Up” appears on the cover of
the internationally best selling book “Mariachi For Gringos,” written by
Gilbert Sperry. In November 2005, Denise’s painting “Beatnik” was
auctioned with a Chagall and Picasso.
Denise has been teaching watercolor classes and workshops in the
United States and Canada for the past several years. She teaches weekly
classes in her art studio to enthusiastic adults. Denise is currently
volunteering her time to teach watercolor techniques to an artist who
suffered a severe stroke and is partially paralyzed. She is hoping to
improve the quality of this person’s life, both physically and emotionally,
by stimulating new pathways for the brain to follow. Denise will participate
in the “Paint Box Project” for pediatric cancer patients at Roswell Park
Cancer Institute in the Fall of 2009.
Denise also designs and sells unique wearable art jewelry, which has been
featured in the Bead and Button Magazine.
